5K to prevent domestic violence against Women and Girls - The brothers of OHL will walk and volunteer during the UN Women's (National Capital Chapter) Annual Walk. The walk will begin at Gateway Park, proceed through Georgetown and Dupont Circle and will end with a closing ceremony at Logan Circle. Black Heritage Night 2012 for the 3rd year in a row the Brothers of Omicron Eta Lambda will wear the Black and Old Gold to Nationals Park to cheer on the Washington Nationals while paying tribute to Black History during Nationals Black Heritage Night. The game will be played on Thursday, June 21 when the Tampa Ray Devil Rays come to town. Game time is 7:05pm. Tickets for the event are $52 and can be purchased HERE. 2012 Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program at the Smithsonian Institution. The event will be held in Baird Auditorium at the National Museum of Natural History, 10th Street and Constitution Avenue, Northwest, Washington, DC, on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 7:00 until 9:30 p.m. The program will begin with welcoming remarks from our director and feature a keynote address by Harry E. Johnson Sr., President and CEO, Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation. The Brothers of OHL will perform a step exhibition to accompany the program.
Howard University Football 2011
On Saturday, October 15, 2011... Brothers of OHL and the Their Young Men's club of Whittier Education Campus, will be attending the football game between Georgetown University and Howard University. The broithers will talk to the youngs men Club about the importance of staying in school and after that they will enjoy the game. The tickets are compliments of Brother Wilbur Chaney, Howard University Football alum and current Brother of OHL. Alpha Attire
In its 2nd year OHL will once again partner with Strive DC and as apart of Alpha Week the men of Alpha will collect new and fairly new, “prepared to wear men’s suits, which are appropriate for a job interviews and the professional work force. STRIVE DC assists unemployed individuals in the Washington, DC area in obtaining the skills to get and keep a job through its intense three week attitudinal training course where people who lack these basic skills are transformed into work ready individuals. On December 1, 2011 during Alpha Week OHL will make a presentation to support Strive DC.
Books for Whittier
Donations of books and magazines for the school library or classrooms can be brought to the chapter meetings. Materials can cater to kindergarten through seventh grade, with an emphasis on grades five through seven.
Partnership with Whittier Elementary School
As part of the chapter's commitment to furthering the education of African American youth, the brothers volunteer monthly at Whittier Elementary School. Members of the chapter read, question, and discuss literature with students in the primary and intermediate grade levels. 1,906 Food Drive
The "1906 Food Drive" is an initiative to collect 1,906 non-perishable food items and distribute them during Alpha Week on December 3, 2011 to So Others Might Eat (SOME) a interfaith, community-based organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital. A partnership with SOME in the form of a food drive correlates with our Fraternity Principles: First of All, Servants of ALL and We Shall Transcend ALL.
We Feed Our People (WFOP)
WFOP is a community based coalition of concerned individuals and organizations, formed in 1988 in Washington, DC. Its purpose is to find creative and effective ways to commemorate the works and life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. WFOP has annually provided a nutritious meal and warm clothing for homeless citizens in the nation’s capitol during the nationally recognized ML King Holiday as a way to continue to draw attention to the plight of the poor and neglected. Along with other DC Pan-Hellenic Chapters let's get out on Monday, January 16th and help keep the work of our fellow Fraternity Brother and great hero alive. March for Babies
Formerly known as WalkAmerica, the March for Babies will took place on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Nationals Park. The walk is designed to celebrate babies born healthy and to raise funds for babies who need help to thrive. Omicron Eta Lambda will assist the National Capital Area Chapter of the March of Dimes in its annual walk. A date for 2012 has not been set yet.
Youth and Novice Golf Clinic
The brothers of Omicron Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. host a golf instructional clinic aimed at introducing/teaching the principles of golf to youth and novice golfers. The program will also look to connect young men and women with potential Alpha brothers as mentors. Langston Golf Course in Washington, DC will serve as the host for this first annual program.
